Woodworm Information

The adult common furniture beetle can fly, but something they don’t do on a regular basis with only having around three weeks to live. It’s body is mostly brown, about 2.5mm in length, with what look like grooves running down their backs lengthways. They have legs that are shorter than their antennae.

Woodworm insects are known to have a two and five-year life cycle. Within this time, the larvae will hatch and then eat the wood under the surface before re-emerging as beetles, mating, laying more eggs and then finally dying. The life cycle of the wood-boring beetle is normally always near completion before most property owners are even aware they have a problem.

In ideal conditions, left unchecked and untreated woodworm issues can develop, manifest and develop into more serious problems affecting other timbers and potentially leading to more costly repairs. These infestations can lead to significant damage and severe structural problems within people’s homes and businesses.
